A research-informed, first-principles approach to complex decisions in resource systems.

Analytical depth applied selectively, in service of decision quality rather than novelty.

The problems OneOverNil is engaged in are rarely well-defined at the outset. Data is often incomplete, assumptions are embedded in legacy models, and decisions carry consequences that extend beyond technical performance.

The approach taken is therefore as important as the analysis itself.

First-Principles Thinking

Problems are approached from fundamentals rather than templates. Systems are decomposed to understand core drivers, constraints, and sensitivities, and assumptions are made explicit before analysis begins and carried through subsequent work.

This allows simplifications to be applied deliberately, rather than inherited unknowingly from prior models or industry conventions.

Analytical Rigour

Analytical work may involve statistical analysis, simulation, and computational modelling, supported by purpose-built digital tools where appropriate.

Emphasis is placed on data quality, traceability, and auditability, particularly in due diligence, investment, system design, and review contexts where defensibility matters as much as numerical output, and where stakeholders must understand how conclusions are reached.

Judgement and Selectivity

Not all problems require heavy modelling. Analytical depth is applied where it materially improves decisions, and withheld where it does not.

Professional judgement, domain experience, and contextual understanding remain central. The objective is insight and clarity, not complexity for its own sake.

Discretion and Confidentiality

Much of the analytical development and research that underpins this work is internal, context-specific, and not distributed publicly, while remaining accessible and explainable within the context of each engagement.

This allows methods to evolve without constraint while keeping client contexts protected.

Taken together, this approach supports clearer, more defensible decisions that are better aligned with long-term operational and commercial realities.
